About the Project
uViewDoc was built to solve a specific problem: the friction and risk of viewing files on machines where you cannot or should not install native software.
The Motivation
In enterprise, legal, and academic environments, users frequently need to inspect documents quickly. However, standard operating procedure often prohibits installing new software. The default fallback—uploading the file to a "free online viewer"—is a massive security compromise.
We believe utility should not require sacrificing privacy. By leveraging modern WebAssembly and JavaScript compilation, the browser itself becomes a secure, sandboxed runtime for document rendering.
Design Philosophy: Archival Precision
The interface deliberately eschews modern SaaS tropes. There are no generic gradients, no rounded buttons, no intrusive animations.
We utilize an 'Archival Precision' design system:
- Typography: Instrument Serif (Display) paired with DM Sans (Body) to mimic editorial, academic ledgers.
- Color: High contrast Ink Black on Archival Paper and Vellum, with Blueprint Blue and Rust acting solely as functional indicators, not decoration.
- Structure: Hard borders, exposed metadata, and asymmetric grids to reinforce the technical, clinical nature of the tool.
Sustainability
Because uViewDoc operates entirely client-side, our server costs are negligible (strictly static asset delivery). This allows the project to remain free indefinitely without resorting to advertising or data brokering.
